ST. JAMES INFIRMARY I went down to the St. James Infirmary to find a doctor who could mend all my tears and the nurse, she sighed as she smiled at me, she said, darling, the doctor's not here- don't tell me, you're not the only one I said, nurse, I can tell that you've seen your fair share of heartache and trouble and pain But I must meet that man with the god-given hands, it's been years I've been hearing his name They tell me, I'm not the only one And the nurse, she sighed as she smiled at me She said, I'll tell you but promise me this If the doctor is there, don't sit in his chair or rustle the cuffs on his wrists when he tells you you're the only one So I kept to my word for many a year and the doctor he made me his wife but one day at dawn, the doctor was gone and the nurse disappeared in the night So I walked through that door that I'd been through before in a dream or a book that I'd read and instead of his chair was an emptiness there and two cufflinks covered in red Oh I went down to the St. James Infirmary to find a doctor who could mend all my tears and the doctor was kind, he made me his wife but now I'm the only one here Oh, I'm the only one Oh, I'm the only one Oh, I'm the only one Oh, I'm the only one

Cities 02:44
CITIES Quietly, quietly The cars' headlights are stars, you see As the city comes creeping Silently, silently The moon looks over her shoulder At the grass lands Turned into boulders So come to me Run with me Roll in the grass with me Until the grass turns gray with concrete Until the grass lands are gold with lights of the ones they hold So come to me Run with me Roll in the grass with me Until the grass turns gray with concrete

LIGHTNING SONG Dig in that soil Dig in that dirt Soulful and wild Your love and work Oh your love and work You'll dig for no one You'll dig for some Leavers, lost lovers On the run Some for the storm Some for the sun Singing that lightning song That brings the lightning on Oh just like the wind Oh just like the wind That song has caught you Something fierce A wind from nowhere In the pine top spears Who will come to calm your ears? Who will come to calm your ears? From that lightning song That brings the lightning near Oh just like the wind Oh just like the wind That old lightning song That holds the lightning song That holds the lightning in That holds the lightning song Holds the lightning in

BLUE HIGHWAYS When fall has come To the landlocked lawns of the city suns And all the lemons that we've loved lay brown and scattered in the sun Oh how does it happen that we stall for a while, we keep jumping them back I couldn't answer then The keys were heavy in my swollen hands I said, go, little sister Go where you're wanted Where the lists that you're made of won't fall from your pocket I wanted to catch them as they flew from your wallet but my hands are made of holes when they're wanted And only our future knows exactly when to come and precisely where to go When all we've ever hoped to hold has vanished into song and is held here in our lungs Go, little sister, crawl back to the cradle we shared when we were infants our fingers unable to master the threads of these delicate instruments we prodded and pressed against, haunted and hesitant We held them again and again until the tones they hummed were infinitely small Crawl, little sister, crawl under the wire Where the straws that we drank from were dandelion fibers and the loves that we've lost they all roll on like tires and the highway is infinite highway is infinitely long So come now, with nettles in your clothes and the locket made of bone you found so long ago Cause all we ever hope to own will vanish into song and be held here in our lungs

Green Grass 02:50

about

After roaming the alleys of Brooklyn and the mountains of Montana, songwriter Jasmine Dreame Wagner retreated to her home in the woods to record chilling lo-fi lullabies and dark country dream songs with slide guitarist and percussionist Alex Reed Wilson. The result is Cabinet’s limited edition vinyl LP, “Blue Highways,” recorded on their Tascam 424 4-track and Tascam 488 8-track tape machines.
